Jesus said, “They do not know what they do.” It wasn’t just the soldiers. Nobody at the cross knew what they were doing.  Simon of Cyrene didn’t know that as he carried the weighty beam, the Man next to him was carrying the sins of the world up that hill. Joseph of Arimathea didn’t know that the coagulated blood soiling his hands, neck, and clothes was taking away the sins of the world.
