Paul understood the first and second advents of
the Messiah to be for different divine purposes, and these according to his apocalyptic
worldview. The sacrificial death of the Messiah in this age reconciles us to God, and we are
given peace by the Holy Spirit so that we may stand blameless before the Messiah at the
Parousia, thus inheriting the glory of the age to come. - John P. Harrigan
