In addition to these weekly and daily rhythms adapted from Judaism, Christians also inherited the Jewish focus on the goal toward which history was moving, the eschaton (Greek for the end). Because Christians believed that Jesus was the Jewish Messiah, the more general Jewish hope for the day of the Lord was refocused around the return of Christ.
