Bob Sorge
The cross surfaces everybody’s loyalties. You cannot remain neutral before the cross. The cross forces everyone to choose sides.
1. Judas showed his loyalty was only to himself.
2. The loyalty of the eleven was tested to the max, and although they stumbled, they still loved Jesus and so were preserved.
3. The chief priests showed themselves loyal to their own standing in the nation.
4. Pilate, when having to choose between loyalty to Christ and loyalty to Caesar, chose Caesar without hesitation (John 19:12-13).
5. Jesus demonstrated His loyalty to His Father, even in His hour of utter forsakenness. The cross is the ultimate symbol of loyalty.
