Broadly speaking, whenever nominally Christian cultures become literate in the Scriptures, philosemitism will be the result, and sometimes even Christian Zionism. Writing around the year 1600, English preacher Thomas Brightman (who read through the New Testament every two weeks!) spoke about the Jews' return to their homeland:

“What, shall they return to Jerusalem again? There is nothing more certain; the prophets do everywhere confirm it.”

But in places where people lose access to the Scriptures, do not study God's Word, or when a society rejects the Bible through rationalism, atheism, or re-paganization, antisemitism gains strength.

We can see this happening today in America. We have in our country both an influx of non-Christians who possess a remarkable Jew-hatred, and a great decline in biblical literacy – something which is driving the resurgence of the crudest "Christian" forms of antisemitism. - Nick Uva
